Project India
This project began in an unlikely way, but one that captures the essence of our vision. An unexpected friendship blossomed after we found a lake on the map to take a quick dip, and discovered more than we bargained for.
We were met by some of the villagers bathing and washing their clothes in the water, who greeted us first with shock, and then a hospitality and warmth that resonated deeply within our hearts.
They fed us, danced with us, and played games till the sun set, sharing everything that they had without expecting anything in return. Coming from the Western world, where possession and ownership is very individualistic, this openness and generosity was inspiring and it left a huge impression.
They shared stories with us, and told us about their future aspirations, and we discovered that many of the younger students in the village wished to become doctors and engineers, but that the families were unable to afford the cost of schooling that these dreams would require.
After they gave so much to us, strangers who had stumbled into their land, we knew that we had to try to do whatever we could to support these kind souls, and help them access the opportunities we so readily take for granted in our more developed society.
And so… Coco and Kiki was born.
