REINVEST THE PROFITS

At Coco & Kiki, every piece you purchase fuels impactful projects in the Philippines and India. We believe in more than just sustainable fashion—we’re committed to creating real change.

PROJECT INDIA

Project 1 - A small village on the outskirts of Alleppey, which we stumbled across in 2019, where we initially made friends over biscuits from Pondicherry and went back three days in a row, dancing which was impressive from their side, a bit like an Uncle dancing at a wedding from our side! We swam together in the nearby lake and had an evening of Karaoke.

In 2023, we returned and spent Onam Festival together, it was an exciting reunion from both sides. In true festival style we played games, musical chairs, pin the bindi on the forehead, lime and spoon races, tug of war and jumping for biscuits on a line to name a few!

Many of the villagers are aspiring engineers, nurses and doctors and really value the importance of going to school and learning as much as possible. So in the form of prizes for the games we gave them school supplies, with the next stop being paying for some of the villagers school fees to study to be doctors.

PROJECT PHILIPPINES

Project 2 - Headed up by the lovely Jasmine B, based (perhaps unsurprisingly,) in Negros – a small island in the Philippines. She raised nearly £10,000 in order to prepare and distribute food and essentials to locals who were living hand to mouth at the beginning of the pandemic.

Together, we’ve created a longer term solution to the ongoing problem: Jas will select individuals who’d like to start a small venture but perhaps don’t have the start up capital or the know-how. And between Jas and myself, we have both knowledge and funding to help get them started.

Our objective is to enable people within the Negros community, to give them a leg up, to assist with the spending and available resources. With Jasmine on the ground, she will be using her marketing expertise to aid the photography, and to set up online media pages in order to structure the distribution.

TRACEABILITY

We’ve commissioned our fabrics to be custom-made so that we can trace who has been involved in the process at every stage of the production. We want to be sure people are being treated well, conditions are comfortable and clean, and employees are being paid more than a living wage. We visit the places that work with us to create our clothing regularly; we’ve sat and had shortbread with them.

Coco & Kiki is the absolute definition of slow fashion - we would lose to snails to make sure that the process is something we can all be proud of, the Founders, the makers, the wearers.

We’ve used natural dyes and fixers across all the colourways possible. With people and the planet at heart and not wanting to cut any corners with our sustainable commitments, it has been the harder way to source fabric and ensure fairness for all, but it’s really the only way for us.
